Napa to Sonoma Half-Marathon Update

Hello Friends, Family, & Neighbors, Happy post Memorial Weekend! Hope you had a great time! You may already know I'm running a half-marathon Sunday, July 21, 2013. It is a run from Napa to Sonoma! That's 13.1 miles. I've never ran in that area and am looking forward to that day. Help me raise money for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America, use the link to donate. The website is secure, fast and easy to use.   http://www.active.com/donate/napaNCASF13/sfmovingroovin   It is tax deductable. I decided to join Team Challenge to help find a cure to Crohn's & Colitis patients. I don't have it, thank God. But since I joined with them, they have guided me with proper training, stretching and continue to coach me along the way. As we enter our 12th week, I have had no injuries in my training! I feel pretty good as I move onward with it. The funds I raise go directly to the foundation. Some portion will cover one night

Book Release Party 5/17/13

The Fallen Angels Book Club has only two requirements: the members must love books and have a white-collar criminal record. Hollis Morgan fits the bill. Left holding the bag in an insurance fraud scheme concocted by her now ex-husband, she served her time and is trying to rebuild her life. All she wants is for the court to pardon her conviction so she can return to law school. After one of her fellow members is murdered in a scenario straight out of a club selection, Hollis is once again the subject of police scrutiny. Refusing to get stuck with another bad rap, she sets out to investigate her fellow club members. Is one of them really blackmailing the others? As a second member dies in yet another book-inspired murder, Hollis realizes that time is running out. Everything rides on her finding the killer--not just her career aspirations. She must identify the killer before she herself becomes the next victim. Everyone is convinced she knows more than she lets on. But what is it, exactl
Season of the Witch: Enchantment, Terror and Deliverance in the City of Love   Wow! This book was a great read! It had me engaged, fear with terror and amazing deliverance! This city that I love so much, makes me proud where San Franciscans did pull together in the midst of terror, tragedy and triumph! It's not just politics, but it is the people that live here who make SF. The working class, the Pac Heights, the Mission, the diversity is what makes SF amazing! We can't forget the wonderful San Francisco 49ers! They helped San Franciscans to believe change was on it's way after the terror that occurred prior. It is books like these that fill me with joy, continued optimisim in where we, anyone can make a change and be part of history. History teaches us a lot on how to work together as a city. Most of you know me where I take pride in this city. I want this city to continue to excel, be part of change and make a difference in my community at large

The Word "Frisco"

I finally found evidence in a book about San Francisco's other word usage - "Frisco". Over the years I attempt to tell my brothers, family, friends and others not to use the word "Frisco". First of all it sounds ridiculous, disrespectful to the city of San Francisco and artless. Today, some still use it and it bothers me.  I did read someplace else years ago that a certain gentleman in the late 1800's or early 1900's this guy would walk around the city and write up citations to those who used the word "Frisco". Now, as I read David Talbott's "Season's of the Witch", a book about San Francisco in the 60's and 70's mentions my point!  Unfortunately, Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. from Youngstown, Ohio casually referred to the Niners' hometown as "Frisco" - a violation of local custom! Some of you maybe most of you know I take pride for this beautiful city!  ~vanessa in Dogpatch District
